There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the border from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den wagering is not allowed. Eight casinos are established in a generally tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent area, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gaming locations in Asia. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and although visas are apparently required to pass, there are ways around this, as is correct of most border crossings.
The first Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling den is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machines and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel complex that highlights many comforts in addition to the gambling hall, which houses ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 tables.
